How to make a nice cup of tea

How to make a good indian tea in 10 mins

Hello,

A good tea is the best possible start of the day. Not only it makes you fresh but also prepare you for the day's hard work. As most of Indian, I am also fond of good, nicely prepared tea. Ever since I have come to UK, I am starving to get good Indian tea even in very expensive hotel. I was surprised to see that even good Indian restaurants do not prepare authentic Indian tea. So I dedicate this hub to all those Indians abroad to make good Indian home made tea.

Ingredients: For 1 cup of tea;

  • half cup of water
  • 2 table spoon of sugar (as per you choice, if you are diabetic, you can choose sugar free tablets)
  • 1 and 1/2 table spoon of Assam or Darjeeling tea
  • 3/4 cup of milk (prefer toned milk with less fat).
  • 5-6 cardamom
  • 10 -20 gram ginger

Before you start preparing, chop ginger in very small pieces. Also grind cardamom to rough powder.

Directions for preparation:

  • Put the kettle with water on gas stove with lower flame.
  • Add tea to it when the water start boiling.
  • Now increase the flame level and add grinded cardamom to it. Please make sure that you allow the water to boil with tea first for 2 minutes then add cardamom.
  • After 2 minutes, add chopped ginger to it. If it is winter or if you are having cold, you can increase the quantity of ginger.
  • Wait for 2 minutes and then add sugar..
  • Let it boil for another 2 minutes on high flame and then half cup of milk to it. Quantity of milk should depend on your choice as some people like less milk in their tea.
  • Lower the flame level and leave it to boil for another 5 minutes.

Here is your good, home made Indian tea to serve. Don't forget to have some Indian snacks with it. I prefer some namkeen.

If you want to make black tea, you can leave milk and can add some lemon after pouring the tea in cup and stir it well.

After writing this hub, I cannot control myself to go and prepare 1 cup for myself.

Do i really need to crush cardamoms???? Made a tester today, even though i sieved it little bits managed to get through and float on top of my drink, will it still taste if i leave pods whole??? Would appreciate comments asap as guest due tomorrow evening....

navneetjha 19 months ago

yeah Carron, it will be good if you crush it completely and then put in the boiling tea.

Thank you Navneetjha for your speedy reply, was told to add cinnamon sticks also which i did today, can you tell me at what point do i add them? Is it at same time as i add cardomon? or when i add ginger???

navneetjha 19 months ago

Well Carron, preparing Cinnamon tea is different from ginger / Cardmon tea. I would advice not to mix both of them together as it will change the taste completely.

carron campbell 19 months ago

Oh no, now i am worried? I loved the taste of the cinnamon, i know its a lot to ask but cud you tell me how to make it with cinnamon and can i also add cardamom?????

navneetjha 19 months ago

If you like to add Cinnamon then add Cinnamon sticks before you add cardamon and ginger.

1. Boil water

2. Add Cinnamon sticks..

3. Add cardmon, tea and then ginger

4. Add sugar

5. Add milk accordingly..

carron campbell 19 months ago

Good hub. I love hot tea and the tea in combination with the spices alone is so good for you. Thanks for a great recipe. I will read more. Also, I was taught by a lady from Spain to always pour the hot water over the tea leaves to bring out the best flavors. Of course your tea is made with other spices. She called this technique, if you will, "The Agony of the Leaves". I thought that was pretty cool. I will have to try your tea recipe when I get back from the store. I am on my way to buy the ingredients. Thanks! Teresa

Hi there Naveetjha, sorry its taken so long to reply and to say "Thank You" for your help and speedy replies! My visitors were well impressed with the tea i made following your recipe, it actually didnt take place on the day i expected, has they were waiting for a relative who was due from Pakistan, so i had plenty of time to improve my technique, when they did all come round, i made it so fast you would have thought i had been doing it for years!!! Anyway, they all enjoyed the evening. When i saw my friend the day after, she said her grandma (the person who came over from Pakistan) was really impressed, and told her to Thank me!!!!Now that might seem no big deal, BUT i have met this lady before, and she is "as tough as old boots" so for her to say anything is total praise indeed!!! I normally add milk and water with same mixture portion described by you . But I put tea powder in the beginning itself along with milk and water and boil it . Does it matter in taste ? Will adding the tea after the water boils , make a difference ? Please advice . My tea comes out tasty sometimes but not very good sometimes , I don't know what changes . Also when you mix cold milk in to boiling water , does it influence the taste negatively ?

The number of cardamom written should be corrected to 2 -3 seeds of cardamom not 5 or 6 cardamoms.
